A man that had the energy to call the games is GONE:Hot Rod Hundley leaves us after 80 years

He was the voice of the Utah/New Orleans Jazz for 35 years…He averaged 24.5 points a game playing his college basketball at West Virginia…He called basketball games for CBS, he was a man that had pure energy…He had sort of a raspy voice, that he could raise and lower to send the basketball games into an up and down driving motion….

Hot Rod Hundley was a name and voice that you could never forget…Jim Nance of CBS college basketball was talking about Hundley’s passing tonight during the NCAA basketball game on WFMY TV 2….

Hundley had IT…There was and could only be one Hot Rod Hundley…Sort of reminded me of what Ken “The Hawk” Harrelson was/brought to the Chicago White Sox…

Hot Rod Hundley is one of the biggest names in Utah Jazz basketball history, right up there with Karl Malone and John Stockton and Frank Layden too….Hot Rod Hundley made that line “Stockton to Malone” famous and that is one of the most memorable lines in NBA history…Haven’t seen anyone else drop that line in on the Hot Rod Hundley tributes yet, but to me, that was THE LINE….It made Hot Rod Hundley famous among NBA announcers and among all sports announcers really….

“Stockton to Malone”, it is pretty simple, but Hot Rod Hundley said it so many times, he put that phrase on the world-wide sports announcing map….

Hot Rod Hundley GONE, but I tell you, I loved this guy’s energy and his raspy West Virginia voice….

RIP Hot Rod Hundley….Gone at age 80 and you can read more on this when you CLICK HERE….
