College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Lynchburg 20, Guilford 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Caroline Carozza scored six goals and four assists in Lynchburg College’s 20-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Guilford College Thursday night.

Alexa Carey, Katherine Francis and Maddie Koontz each scored three times as Lynchburg evened its overall record at 4-4 (2-2 ODAC). The Quakers dropped to 4-4 (1-2 ODAC) with the loss.

Lynchburg gradually built a 5-1 lead 18 minutes into the game as the Carey tallied twice and Carozza collected a goal and two assists. The Hornets held a 9-5 edge in draw controls and senior goalie Hailey Bossert made four of her game-high 13 saves in the first half.

Guilford’s Demming Carlow made it a 5-2 game 10 minutes before halftime, but Lynchburg reeled off seven of the game’s next eight scores, three in the first half’s final 57 seconds. Carozza scored just before the halftime horn, her third goal of the half. She also recorded all four assists in the opening period and had a hand in nine of Lynchburg’s 11 first-half goals.

The Hornets kept up the pressure in the second half and used a 6-0 spurt to open a 20-5 edge with 4:20 to play. Koontz netted all three of her goals and Carozza also had three tallies in the frame. Guilford owned a 15-14 edge in second-half shots, but Bossert stood tall with nine saves.

Guilford’s Eleanora Keene scored three goals and Marina Bailey and Demming Carlow both scored twice. Keene added seven draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers, all game highs. Sophomore Sammi Milbourn made four saves and had three ground balls in goal.
