HIGH POINT, N.C. – Yashua Clemons broke the 44-year old school record in the triple jump as Guilford College participated in the second day of the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University. School from all three NCAA divisions were represented, though the majority of the participants in the meet were Division I schools.
Clemons’ triple jump mark of 13.25 meters broke the 44-year old school record previously held by John Dent in 1971. Clemons’ broke the record by .25 meters as he claimed seventh place in the meet. The junior also participated in the participation race of the 400 meter hurdles, running the second-fastest time in school history, finishing with a time of 1:00.93.
C.J. Green led Guilford’s sprinters, claiming a 13th-place finish with a time of 22.66 seconds in 200 meter dash, participation race. The time was also the second-best Division III time in the race. Green also placed 23rd overall in the participation race of the 400 meter run with a time of 52.67 seconds, the third-best Division III time.
Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) picked up Guilford’s remaining top-15 finish in the meet, placing 14th overall in the 800 meter run participation race with a time of 2:00.86, the third-best Division III time in the race.
A’Lexus Newkirk led the Quaker women’s sprinters with the fifth-best Division III time in the 100 meter dash, finishing with a time of 13.95 seconds. Newkirk also led the Quakers in the 200 meter dash, finishing with the sixth-best Division III time at 29.79 seconds.
Kayla Scott follow Newkirk almost stride for stride in the 200 meter dash, finishing with the sixth-best Division III time at 29.85 seconds.
Molly Anne Marcotte led Guilford’s distance runners with the seventh-best finish in the 800 meter run, coming across the finish line with a time of 2:44.23.
The Quakers return to the track next Saturday, racing at cross-town North Carolina A&T in the Aggie Invitational.
