College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Washington and Lee 9, Guilford 6

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lauren Procaccino scored four goals and an assist in Washington and Lee’s 9-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Guilford College Saturday.

The Generals, ranked 10th in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association NCAA Division III Poll, maintained their perfect ODAC record (7-0) and improved to 9-2 overall. The Quakers dropped to 5-6 (2-4 ODAC).

Procaccino tallied three goals off of free-position shots, two in the second half during a decisive 4-0 Washington and Lee run. Trailing 5-4 at halftime, Guilford’s Kira Buss opened the second-half scoring to tie the score for the fourth and final time. After a nearly nine-minute scoring drought, Procaccino converted a free-position shot with 16:48 left that broke the deadlock. Goals by Olivia Sisson and Liz Curtis sandwiched around Procaccino’s final score opened a 9-5 Generals’ edge with 7:05 left in regulation.

The Quakers had some quality second-half chances, but Washington and Lee goalie Cara Mulligan notched five of her seven saves in the period, which helped keep Guilford from gaining ground. Mulligan also caused a turnover and shared game-high honors with five ground balls. Guilford’s Marina Bailey scored a free-position goal with 5:55 left, which made it a 9-6 game, but Mulligan stopped the Quakers’ final three shots.

Melissa Coggins and Sisson both scored twice for Washington and Lee. The Generals controlled 11 of the game’s 17 draws with Hollis Tardy collecting a game-best three draw controls.

Eleanora Keene paced the Quakers with three goals, all scored in the first half, and also had two draws, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Buss finished with two goals and an assist. Sammi Milbourn made five saves and picked up five ground balls in nearly 53 minutes in goal.
