Brown, Wallace Earn NCCSIA MBB Accolades

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men’s basketball student-athletes John Brown and Devante Wallace were named to the 2015 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men’s Basketball Teams on Tuesday.

Brown earned first team honors and Wallace was named to the second team. Brown is a three-time first team selection while Wallace garnered his second-straight second team honor.

Brown adds NCCSIA accolades to a growing list of postseason honors in 2014-15. The Jacksonville, Fla., native also was a first team all-Big South pick and garnered NABC All-District first team accolades for the second-straight season. He was named a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, given annually to the nation’s top mid-major college basketball player.

Brown ranked ninth in the country in field goals made (242) in 2014-15 and was 26th nationally in scoring (19.3 ppg) and 32nd in field goal percentage (.550). He averaged 26.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and shot 57.4 percent in High Point’s three postseason contests. He led the Panthers in 10 statistical categories, including scoring, field goal percentage, field goals and free throws made, blocks and steals. Brown posted at least 10 points in 30-33 games and at least 20 points in 15 contests.

Wallace started 30 of 32 games in 2014-15 and ranked second on the Panthers with 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. He ranked 10th in the Big South in defensive rebounds/game overall (4.21) and seventh in that category in league play (4.51). Wallace also was 11th in the Big South with 2.0 3-point field goals made per game in league play.

The Baltimore, Md., native shot 42.9 percent (36-84) from 3-point territory in league play and averaged 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent (8-16) from 3-point range in postseason play. Wallace ends his HPU career ranked No. 2 all-time in 3-point percentage (.424) and No. 3 in 3-point field goals made (184).

Nominees for the NCCSIA All-State teams were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
