College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford 3rd After 18 Holes of Emory Invitational

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – Guilford College senior Drew Thompson shot two-under-par 70 Monday and leads the Emory Invitational after 18 holes.

Thompson’s play helped the Quakers to third place in the 13-team field. Guilford carded an opening-round 301, seven strokes behind leader Methodist University (294) and five back of Berry College (296). LaGrange College sits fourth at 307. Tournament host Emory University and Oglethorpe University share fifth place at 310.

Thompson started off his day with an eagle-two on the first hole of the 7,050-yard, par-72 Barnsley Garden Resort Course. He was four-under before bogeying holes 16 and 18. Thompson holds a one-shot lead over Berry’s Drew Kosko and Tommy McCloskey.

Guilford’s Ty Palmer is tied for sixth after shooting 73 Monday. The Quakers’ Harrison Frye and Tanner Gross are in 34th after opening-round scores of 79. Mitch Robinette shot 80 for the Quakers.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers, ranked 11th in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll and Golfstat.com Head-to-Head Rankings, wrap up the 36-hole tournament Tuesday.
