NCHSAA Performance of the Week

ATHLETES FROM FRANKLIN, SALISBURY EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL— Haeli Bryson of Franklin and Ryan Jones of Salisbury are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Bryson, only a freshman, had a couple of outstanding games for the Franklin softball team both at the plate and as a pitcher, leading her team to two wins. She went three for three with a home run and a double to pace Franklin past previously unbeaten North Henderson by a 7-1 count. She also got the pitching victory, allowing just two hits and one unearned run.

Against West Henderson, Bryson went four for four and hit for the cycle while also pitching two innings in the 14-2 victory, striking out four and not allowing a baserunner.

Salisbury senior Jones led the Hornets to their first Easter baseball tournament championship in more than 25 years in the F&M Bank Classic in Kannapolis. He had nine hits in the three-game tournament, including a four for four performance in the championship game as Salisbury topped Concord Jay Robinson 13-5.

He was also the winning pitcher in the championship game and earned a save in the 10-7 semifinal victory over Northwest Cabarrus.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
