HPU Men’s Track Completes Day One at ECU Invite

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Junior Jim Wilson picked up a combined seven points in the discus and hammer throws to lead the High Point University men’s track & field team on day one of competition at the ECU Invitational Friday.

After three events in Greenville, HPU sits in fourth place at the scored meet with seven points. SEC program South Carolina leads the meet with 26 points.

Wilson placed third in the discus throw with a mark of 45.04m (147-09) to earn six points for the Panthers. The Nashville, Tenn., native also finished eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.85m (137-04) to pick up a point for HPU.

In the javelin throw, sophomore decathlete Eric Purnell placed ninth with a mark of 43.13m (141-06) while freshman decathlete Matt Hollis finished 10th with a throw of 42.25m (138-07).

HPU will suit up for a full set of track & field events on the final day of the ECU Invite Saturday.

Bulldog Decathlon Recap (Tristan Faure)

Earlier in the week, redshirt-senior Tristan Faure competed in the Bulldog Decathlon April 8-9 in Athens, Ga., and finished seventh in the elite competition. During the meet, Faure set new PRs in the pole vault (4.45m) and discus throw (38.17m).
