College Track & Field News – Guilford’s Martin Wins Weekly ODAC Honor

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College rookie Alex Marin (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ronald Reagan) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week Award Monday. Martin is the Quakers’ first recipient of the league’s weekly outdoor track and field prize and their first since senior David Cason was so honored in 2013. Martin earned an ODAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week Award last February.

Martin clocked the ODAC’s fastest time in the 200-meter dash and the league’s second-fastest 100 at the Aggie Invitational April 11 on North Carolina A&T State University’s Belk Track. He placed 19th in the 200 with a time of 22.21 seconds, a mark second only to Christopher Newport University’s Ryan Scott among NCAA Division III contestants. Martin placed 18th in the 100 with a wind-aided 10.94, which tops time among Division III sprinters. He also ran the lead leg for Guilford’s 4×100 relay that placed eighth with a season-best time of 44.44 seconds, seventh-best in the league this year.

Martin, the 2015 ODAC Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year, also holds the league’s sixth-best long jump mark this season. He placed second in the long jump, third in the 60-meter dash and fourth in the 200 March 1 at the league’s indoor championships.

Coach Danny Cash’s Quakers compete for the ODAC’s Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field titles this weekend (4/17-18) at Bridgewater College.
