College Football News – Guilford Gains Five More Football Commitments

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of five more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Thursday. The announcement gives Guilford 16 new students who have paid their deposits Guilford and will enroll for classes in August.

Stefan Ball (Sugar Hill, Ga.) lettered four seasons at Lanier High School under coach Korey Mobbs. The 5-10, 170-pound defensive back and special teams player played in the Rivalries of Gwinnett All-Star Game and earned First Team All-Georgia AAAAA, all-region and All-Gwinnett Country honors. Ball also led the state of Georgia with 11 interceptions in 2014. He also lettered one year in track.

Connor Gerlits (Waxhaw, N.C.) lettered three years at Cuthbertson High School under coach David Johnson. The 6-1, 220-pound defensive end/linebacker helped his team win the 2014 Southern Carolina Conference-3A championship. Gerlits twice earned all-conference and graduated with school records for sacks and tackles in a season, as well as the career sacks standard. He served as a team captain and earned Second-Team All-Charlotte Observer recognition his senior year. He plans to major in business management.

Matthew Ingram (Winston-Salem, N.C.) lettered two years at West Forsyth High School under coach Adrian Snow. The 6-2, 240-pound two-way lineman helped his team win the 2013 Central Piedmont Conference title. A member of the National Honor Society, he was active with the school’s Interact Club and plans to major in accounting.

Adam Johnson (Trinity, N.C.) lettered four years at Trinity High School under coach Clayton Trivett. The 5-9, 180-pound receiver/defensive back led the state in kickoff return yardage his senior year. Johnson became Trinity’s first all-state football selection, received All-Randolph County recognition and also earned All-Piedmont 2A Athletic Conference honors. He also lettered twice with the Bulldogs’ successful basketball team and also earned two letters in track and field. Johnson plans to major in sport management.

Joshua Tyson (Fayetteville, N.C.) lettered the two years at E.E. Smith High School under coach Ernest King. The 6-3, 230-pound defensive end earned AIB Honor Roll recognition. Tyson is interested in majoring in sport management.

Guilford opens the 2015 season Sept. 5 against Greensboro College in the Gate City Soup Bowl at Jamieson Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
