Gate City FC Boosts Its Preseason with 4-1 Victory

Martinsville VA – Gate City FC continued its preseason schedule with a convincing 4-1 win on the road at Patrick Henry College. On the rain soaked turf, the Gate City Generals dominated the possession game from the start. With the addition of new players and a focus on attack, Head Coach Brian Japp got the team on track for an impressive win.

The team scored early with a goal in the 16th minute from rookie Glen Long, who scored from an assist by Brad Hatzes. Shortly after the start of the second half, Yovani Echeverria scored on a back heel in front of goal and added his second of the night at the 61st minute mark to to push the margin to 3-0. After Patrick Henry scored in the 80th minute, substitute David Izzui added a late 4th goal to finish off the Generals’ scoring for the night.

“This win was an important one for us as we develop with an eye toward our season opener, said Coach Japp, “we’re beginning to develop the creativity and attacking style that we need to be successful.” Yovani Echeverria was the Man of the Match for me last night,” he added, “He took over the game in the 2nd half.”

Gate City FC’s home opener will be against Chesterfield United on Saturday May 9, 2015 at 7:00 pm
