Elon’s Munro Continues to Lead at CAA Women’s Golf Championship

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Elon freshman Heather Munro continued to hold on to the top spot on the leaderboard at the CAA Women’s Golf Championship by shooting a two-under 70 during Saturday’s second round of play. Munro’s play has helped the Phoenix to a second-place standing as the maroon and gold is just one stroke off the lead with one round to play.

As a team, Elon shot a 298 on Saturday. Coupled with Friday’s 295, the Phoenix has a two-round mark of 593 (+17). College of Charleston used a two-over 290 to move in front of Elon on Saturday. The Cougars sit at 592 (+16).

Munro had a par on all but two holes during Saturday’s round. She recorded birdies on both numbers one and seven to get to two-under for the day. Through two rounds, Munro has six birdies and her 27 pars lead the field. Munro will begin Sunday’s final round with a one-stroke edge over Delaware’s Andrea Slane. Munro’s two round score is 141 (71-70).

Kelsey Badmaev ended the day at 149 (73-76) and is tied for sixth out of the 40 competitors. Badmaev recorded three birdies during her second round of the tournament and leads all players with seven through 36 holes.

Sunna Vidisdottir moved into a tie for 13th thanks to a 76 on Saturday. She shot a 77 on Friday and is at 153 overall. Vidisdottir had one birdie in round two.

In 20th place is Hilda Kristjansdottir. Kristjansdottir has a total score of 156 (74-82) and has made four total birdies, including three on Saturday.

Finally, Emily Brooks’ 158 (82-76) has her tied for 23rd. By taking six strokes off her first-round mark, Brooks moved up eight places in the individual standings. She had one birdie in her second 18 holes of the tournament.

Elon’s 115 pars lead all teams and the Phoenix’s 21 birdies are tied for the second-most of any squad in the field.
