Towson Avoids Sweep With Sunday Victory Over Elon Baseball

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson Tigers hit four home runs and used a big inning late to avoid being swept by the visiting Elon Phoenix in a 14-4 Colonial Athletic Association baseball game at Schuerholz Park on Sunday afternoon.

The loss dropped Elon’s record to 18-19 overall and 9-6 in league play. Towson improved to 11-25-2, 5-10.

Ryan Cooper collected three of Elon’s seven hits and drove in two runs to pace the Phoenix offense.

Both Colin Dyer and Peter Bowles drove in three runs for Towson.

Elon starter Lucas Bakker (3-5) took the loss. He was charged with five runs on eight hits in six innings.

The win went to Towson starter Lee Lawler (3-4). Lawler went seven innings and gave up one run on five hits.

Up next: Elon will remain on the road for a 6 p.m. game at UNCG on Tuesday, April 21. The game will be broadcast live on WSML 104.5 FM / 1200 AM.

How it happened: Towson took a 2-0 lead in the last of the third inning. The Tigers scored their first run on A.J. Gallo’s RBI ground out and then added another on a wild pitch. Towson added two more in the fourth, one in the sixth and then put the game out of reach with a nine-run eighth.

Inside the box score: Casey Jones’ streak of reaching base safely ended at 20 games … Cooper recorded his fourth consecutive multi-hit game.

Notes: Elon is now 7-2 all-time against Towson … The Phoenix will play two of its final three CAA series at home. The only road trip in that span comes in early May at Hofstra.
