HPU’s Erica Perrotta Tabbed Big South WLAX Freshman of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University women’s lacrosse midfielder Erica Perrotta has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

It marks the first time this season that Perrotta has earned the weekly honor.

Perrotta registered six points on four goals and two assists while causing a team-high five turnovers and grabbing six draw controls in two games for the Panthers. The Roseland, N.J., native opened the week with an impressive defensive effort vs. Liberty in which she caused a game-high four turnovers while also picking up three ground balls and four draw controls. The Roseland, N.J., product also tallied a goal and an assist in the game against the Flames.

On Sunday in the Panthers’ 15-6 win over Longwood, the freshman posted her third hat trick in the past four games while also tallying two draw controls and two ground balls. She added an assist against the Lancers to post four points on the day.

Through 15 games this season, Perrotta ranks second on the Panthers in goals (21) and is third in points (29). The freshman also leads the team with 22 caused turnovers on the year and is second on the squad in draw controls (32) and ground balls (27). She is tied for fourth in the Big South in caused turnovers/game (1.53) in 2015.

Perrotta and the Panthers wrap up the regular season on Friday at 6 p.m. with a home contest against Winthrop. Prior to the game, HPU will honor its six seniors for their contributions to the program.
