Elon’s Zammarelli Earns CAA Baseball Player of the Week Nod

RICHMOND, Va. – After leading Elon to a 4-1 week that included two victories over 22nd-ranked UNCW, sophomore Nick Zammarelli was recognized as the CAA Player of the Week on Monday, April 27. It is the first weekly conference honor of his career and the third of the season for the Phoenix baseball program.

Zammarelli hit .526 (10-for-19) with five runs scored, three doubles, a home run and 13 RBI in five games this week. The Lincoln, R.I., native had at least one hit and two RBI in all five contests as Elon also picked up wins over UNCG and Campbell. Zammarelli posted a .842 slugging percentage and had a .625 on-base percentage.

He began his week with a 1-for-3 night at UNCG. In that game, he drove in two with a ninth-inning double as the Phoenix plated seven runs in the frame to secure the victory. The next day, Zammarelli was 2-for-4 with three RBI in a win at Campbell. In game one of Elon’s CAA series with the Seahawks, Zammarelli went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He then went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader. He finished the week by collecting a career-best four hits in a 4-for-4 day against UNCW. He scored twice and drove in four, including three on a homer, in that game.

For the season, Zammarelli is hitting .295 (49-for-166) with 28 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, five homers and 47 RBI. In CAA games, he is hitting .351 with 13 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, one home run and 12 RBI.

The Phoenix will be back in action on Tuesday, April 28, at Davidson. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
