ELON, N.C. – Elon head football coach Rich Skrosky announced that his squad has elected two captains for the upcoming 2015 season. Serving as captain will be senior defensive back Miles Williams and junior linebacker John Silas.
“These two guys were overwhelmingly selected by their teammates,” said Skrosky. “They both have demonstrated great work ethic and are passionate about football. I am confident they will set a great tone as we continue our summer program and lead us into the 2015 season.”
Williams, who is from Roebuck, S.C., will be serving as a captain for the second straight season. He was fifth on the team with 55 total tackles last year and appeared in 10 games during his junior campaign, making seven starts. In his career in the maroon and gold, Williams has played in 32 games, making 137 tackles. He has notched two interceptions.
Silas, who hails from Powder Springs, Ga., started all 12 games as a sophomore. He was second on the team with 100 tackles and tied for 10th in CAA Football with 8.3 tackles per game. The 100 stops were the eighth-most ever by an Elon player at the FCS level. Over the course of his career, Silas has played in 26 games and has tallied 173 total tackles, including 13.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
The duo will lead Elon into the 2015 season when the Phoenix reports for preseason camp on Aug. 5. The squad will open the 2015 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Wake Forest at 7 p.m. Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at elonphoenix.com or by calling 336-278-6750.
