HPU’s Robertson Excelling In First Season In South East Australian Basketball League

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Former High Point University women’s basketball forward, Stacia Robertson is off to a successful start to her professional career in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL).

Since signing with the Bendigo Lady Braves in late March, Robertson faced several challenges that come with playing on a new continent.

“Adjusting to the rules and slang terms on the court was difficult the first month, but after some time I have really grown to appreciate the Australian rules,” Robertson said. “I am very grateful for my coaches at HPU for preparing me so well for my professional career”.

Since overcoming those early barriers, the Grand Island, Neb. native has appeared in nine games and accumulated 126 points as a Lady Brave. Robertson is averaging 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game and ranks fifth in the SEABL with 42 offensive rebounds.

“I’ve had an amazing experience so far,” Robertson said. “Australia is beautiful and I have met so many lovely people. Playing basketball here is a dream come true.”

Robertson’s achievements with the Bendigo Lady Braves arise from her success as a Panther. During her senior season she earned an AP All-America honorable mention, Big South Player of the Year, All-Big South First Team honors and Big South Player of the Week four times.

The forward rewrote the Division I record book during her three seasons as a Panther. She left HPU first in career field goal percentage (.499), second in career rebounds (801), third in career field goals made (485) and fourth in career points (1,274).

“I definitely miss HPU and my team, as nothing is ever quite like college basketball and the relationships you had with your teammates,” Robertson said. “But there is nothing I would rather be doing at this point in my life”.

With nine games left in the Bendigo Lady Braves regular season, the High Point University family is eager to cheer on Robertson as she finishes her first season as a professional athlete.
