HiToms Win Road Game Versus Pilots, 5-3

WAR MEMORIAL STAIDUM, VA, – On a warm Monday night in Hampton, Virginia the HiToms (11-12) grabbed their second road win of the season with a 5-3 win over the Peninsula Pilots (14-7).

An early run gave the Pilots a 1-0 lead but Hunter Slater (Southern Mississippi) responded with a solo home run in the top of the second to tie the game at one a piece.

In the top of the fourth with Kenon Menard (Southeastern Louisiana) and Daniel Millwee (University of Arizona) on second and third, Kody Ruedisili (Wofford) plated both off a third baseman throwing area.

Innings five and six resulted scoreless as the HiToms held onto their 3-1 lead. However, in the bottom of the seventh the Pilots put themselves into scoring position but could only plate one run.

In the top of the ninth the HiToms added two insurance runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Pilots were unable to respond only putting one run on the board and ultimately falling, 5-3.

Trevor Gay (UNCC) went 6.2 innings allowing two runs off six hits striking out four. Tyler Troutt (Middle Tennessee State) came in with relief throwing two innings allowing one run on two hits striking out three and in the bottom of the ninth with two outs Javarais Banks (Cameron University) came in and threw a strikeout.

The HiToms continue their road trip tomorrow against the Petersburg Generals at 12:00 p.m.
