HERAKLION, Greece —Harry Giles and Team USA struck gold on Sunday.
The Americans had to work overtime to earn it.
The United States outlasted Croatia for a 79-71 overtime victory in the FIBA U-19 World Championship gold-medal game. Giles, the Wesleyan Christian Academy star, finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the tournament.
Croatia’s Luka Bozic made his first of two free throws with four seconds left to tie the score in regulation, but missed the final attempt. Tournament MVP Jalen Brunson and Jayson Tatum carried Team USA in the extra session.
