HPU’s Kai-Lin Hernandez called into Jamaican National Team Women’s Soccer Camp

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior midfielder Kai-Lin Hernandez of the High Point University women’s soccer team has been called into a camp with the Jamaican Women’s National Team in preparation for the Caribbean Football Union Olympic Qualifying Tournament in August.

“I am very proud of Kai-Lin,” HPU women’s soccer head coach Marty Beall said. “She has been working extremely hard at improving her game and was playing her best soccer at the end of this past spring. This invitation is a great accomplishment for Kai-Lin and I am so excited for her.”

The Jamaican team will train for four days beginning on Aug. 15 in Winter Springs, Fla. At the conclusion of the camp, 20 players will be selected to form the team that will travel to the Dominican Republic to take part in the Olympic qualifying competition. The top three teams from that competition will qualify for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in January.

Hernandez has appeared in 40 games with six starts over her first two seasons at High Point, playing primarily as a defensive midfielder and center back. She scored her first collegiate goal in HPU’s 3-1 win over Radford last season with a header on a free-kick opportunity.

High Point kicks off its season on Aug. 21 when the team hosts Georgia in Vert Stadium at 7 p.m. The Panthers return 24 letter winners and nine starters from last season’s Big South Championship squad, which set an HPU Div. I record for wins in a season with 12.
