West Team takes narrow 8-7 lead after first day at Wyndham Cup
East Team wins last two matches of the day to pull within one point

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After the West Team had taken a three-point lead, the East Team returned from a 2 hour, 20 minute rain delay at Old Town Club and won the final two matches to cut the West’s lead to 8-7 after day one at Wyndham Cup.

The morning four-ball session started with Jacob Solomon and Brad Dalke, who is making his fifth Wyndham Cup appearance, breaking Tiger Woods’ record for most starts all-time among boys. The tandem, which has a combined eight Wyndham Cup starts, led off the day with a 3-and-2 victory.

“It’s really important to get that first point to set the tone for the rest of the day,” said Dalke, who improved his career record to 9-5-3. “We won the first two holes and we really set that tone.”

Dalke has amassed 10.5 points during his Wyndham Cup career, which only trails Tiger Woods (12).

“It means a lot, but I want to get to No. 1,” he said. “Wyndham Cup has been a big tournament for me the last five years, and to have my name in the record book means a lot to me.”

The East built a 5-3 lead, but the West claimed the next five matches and took an 8-5 lead before afternoon storms forced the suspension of play with the final two matches on No. 12.

When play resumed, it was Emilia Migliaccio and Shannon Brooks that shifted the momentum back to the East by night’s end. Paired with Garrett Barber, Migliaccio drained a 40-foot eagle putt on No. 17 to win their mixed foursome match, 2-and-1, while Brooks drained a five-foot par putt on No. 18 to earn a full point with her partner S.M. Lee.

“It’s one of those moments you dream of when you have your team around you and you make a clutch putt and everyone rushes up,” Migliaccio said. “That’s what everybody dreams of, and for that to happen to both of us is just great.”

Wednesday morning’s foursome matches will begin at 7:30 a.m., while the afternoon mixed four-ball matches will begin at approximately 1 p.m. For more information about Wyndham Cup, please contact Chris Richards (crichards@ajga.org), or visit ajga.org.
