NCHSAA Performance of the Week Award

STUDENTS FROM CAPE FEAR, FAIRMONT EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Justice Galloway-Velazquez of Fayetteville Cape Fear High School and Reva Locklear of Fairmont High School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs.

Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Galloway-Velazquez, a sophomore quarterback for Cape Fear, had a monster game in a dramatic 43-42 victory over Gray’s Creek on Friday night. He rushed 28 times for 212 yards and ran for three touchdowns, as well as connecting on 20 of 32 passes for 242 yards with TD tosses of 25, 17 and six yards.

His 17-yard touchdown pass to Garry Johnson with 11 seconds to play and then a two-point conversion pass to Malik Knight lifted the Colts to the one-point victory and kept them unbeaten at 3-0. The wild game saw 50 points scored in the fourth quarter alone.

Locklear, a senior leader for Fairmont’s volleyball team, was instrumental in three victories for her undefeated team last week.

She had 20 service points, 21 assists, 12 digs and four aces in a 3-2 win on the road at Lumberton, and then followed up with 14 service points, 15 assists, five digs and a pair of aces in a 3-0 sweep past Purnell Swett at Fairmont.

She closed the week leading her team past conference foe South Robeson by a 3-0 count, with 13 service points, 15 assists, five digs and five aces.
