Volleyball Sails Past Mary Baldwin, 3-0, In USA South Opener

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College volleyball team opened USA South Athletic Conference play at home on Wednesday night against Mary Baldwin. After winning the first set of the match, Greensboro then pulled away from the Squirrels to win the match 3-0.

In the first set of play, Greensboro was able to use a 5-0 run to take the lead at 12-10. During the run, senior setter Bari Tressler recorded two service aces. Later in the set with the score tied 18-18, the Pride rallied off seven straight points to take a 24-18 lead before winning the set 25-20.

Following the first set victory, Greensboro was able to hold complete control of the match winning the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-14 to secure the match win.

Meredith Summers and Evan Sherer combined for fourteen of the Pride’s 31 kills on the night. Megan Baranko also added four kills while Brandy Johnson recorded five.

Greensboro also recorded 12 assisted blocks while also tallying two solo blocks. Brandy Johnson led the way with one solo block and four assists.

“Tonight was a great team win,” Head Coach Kaci Pike stated following the game. “The girls have been working hard every day and making vast improvements. I am proud of their commitment and positivity.”

The Pride (4-6, 1-0 USA South) will once again return to Mayo C. Harlow Memorial Court on Saturday when they host a USA South Athletic Conference Quad Match. Greensboro will square off with the Monarchs of Methodist University at 10:00 AM before finishing the day against Meredith College at 4:00 PM.
