Hexter Announces Addition of Cowley to Elon WLAX Roster

ELON, N.C. – Elon head women’s lacrosse coach Josh Hexter has announced the addition of Maeve Cowley (Oakhurst, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) to the Phoenix roster for the upcoming 2015-16 year. Cowley, a sophomore transfer from UMass, will be eligible to play for the maroon and gold beginning with the 2016 season.

Cowley, a 5-9 midfielder, played in 10 games as a true freshman for the minutewomen in 2015. As a member of the UMass Squad, Cowley won the A-10 regular season and tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. She scored two goals on the season and had two draw controls and a groundball. Cowley netted her first collegiate goal against UMass Lowell and her second in a game against George Mason to finish the year with a 66.7 shot-on-goal percentage.

Cowley is the daughter of Bill and Barb Cowley. Her father was an All-American wide receiver at Holy Cross, who still holds the school record for most touchdown receptions in a game for the Crusaders, and he went on to sign as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots. Her mother was also a collegiate athlete as a soccer player at Holy Cross. Cowley’s younger brother, Trevor, is a freshman on the Phoenix football team.
