Elon Women’s Cross Country Competes At Adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. – The Elon women’s cross country team competed on Friday, Sept. 18, at the adidas XC Challenge at the course at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Phoenix women earned a third-place standing at the NC State hosted meet.

Senior Elyse Bierut was the first Phoenix runner to cross the line with a time of 17:30.8 in the 5K race, just five seconds shy of her own school-record, and finished 13th overall. Shelby Cuddeback was 16th with a time of 17:36.5, a new personal-record and the fourth-best performance in school history.

Bridgette Harrell was the next Elon runner with a time of 18:05 in 25th while fellow rookie Coralea Geraniotis was 29th and had a time of 18:19.8. Brigid Brennan (34th, 18:32.7), Chelsea Smith (36th, 18:33.5), Emma Brown (41st, 18:38.2), Kaitlin Snapp (44th, 18:50.7), Corey Weiss (46th, 19:00.7), Sabina Bains (54th, 19:30.5) and Carolyn Hopkins (76th, 20:51.9) also competed for Elon.

Host NC State won the meet with 19 points followed by fellow Atlantic Coast Conference rival Duke with 48. The Phoenix earned 87 points and beat out another ACC school and in-state rival North Carolina, who finished fourth with 99 points.

Both the men’s and women’s programs are back on the course on Oct. 3, at the Greater Louisville Classic.
