Volleyball Drops Two Conference Matches On Saturday

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College volleyball team hosted a pair of USA South Athletic Conference matches in Hanes Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Pride dropped their first match of the day, 3-0, to Methodist University before falling by the same mark against Meredith College.

The Pride dropped the first two sets of the match by scores of 25-7 and 25-16 before dropping the decisive third set by a narrow 25-23 margin.

Shayla Moss and Brandy Johnson led the way in the match with seven kills each while Evan Sherer along with Breana Baker added two kills apiece.

Tori Belcher recorded a team high 14 defensive digs.

After falling in their opening match of the day to Methodist, Greensboro dropped a hard fought battle with the Avenging Angles of Meredith College by a 3-0 score.

The Pride fell in the opening set of the match 25-14 before dropping the next two by scores of 25-18 and 25-21.

Shayla Moss and Meredith Summers both contributed a match high five kills while Brandy Johnson and Evan Sherer contributed four each.

Katie Clark recorded 11 total assists in the match while Tori Belcher once again led the way with eight defensive digs.

“We got a lot of great touches today and saw some higher level teams in the conference,” said Pride Assistant Coach Meredith Smith following the matches. “We saw some great energy from the girls and we hope that it carries over to our matches next week.”

With the pair of defeats, Greensboro falls to 4-8 overall on the season and 1-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride will return to action on Wednesday night at Ferrum College for another conference matchup.
