ELON, N.C. – Rookie Nicholas O’Callaghan of the Elon University men’s soccer team was selected to TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week as announced by the website on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
This is the latest accolade for O’Callaghan after the first-year helped the 11th-ranked Phoenix extend its best start in school history to 7-0 after earning a pair of wins last week. O’Callaghan helped aid the Phoenix backline to a 1-0 shutout win at then No. 7 Wake Forest last Tuesday, Sept. 15. Prior to the match, the Demon Deacons had been ranked in the top-five in the nation in goals scored.
O’Callaghan continued his strong play in Elon’s Colonial Athletic Association opener versus Drexel last Friday, Sept. 18, tallying his first career points in the Phoenix’s 3-1 victory. The Winter Springs, Fla., native had a goal and an assist in the contest versus the Dragons. On Monday, Sept. 21, O’Callaghan was rewarded for his efforts by being named the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week.
Elon is back in action on the pitch with a road contest at South Carolina tonight at 7 p.m.
