CHAPEL HILL — Morgan Ballard of North Buncombe High School and Jacquarii Roberson of Hertford County High School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Ballard, the libero for the North Buncombe volleyball team, recorded the 1,500th dig of her career last week as her team got past Smoky Mountain 3-1 in action at North Buncombe.

The North Buncombe standout had 23 digs in the match that the Black Hawks won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19, 17-25 and 27-25. She also had three service aces, three kills and a pair of assists on the night.

Ballard was named the Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year last season in volleyball and has committed to continue her athletic career at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Roberson, a junior, had an outstanding two-way performance to lead Hertford to a 31-14 football victory over Winterville South Central last week. On offense, he grabbed nine passes for 215 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with the TD plays covering 13 and 73 yards. From his cornerback position on defense, he had two fumble recoveries, including one he scooped up and returned 33 yards for another touchdown.
