Tye, Speer Lead HPU Men’s Golf On Day One In Lorton

• High Point wraps up a two-round day in 12th with a combined score of 602.
• Freshman Jack Speer and senior McKay Tye carded matching two-round totals of 148 (75-73, +6).
• Sophomore Emile Menard scored a 36-hole total of 152 (77-75)

LORTON, Va. – The High Point University men’s golf team sits in the 12th place position after two rounds at the Patriot Intercollegiate. The squad has posted a combined two-round score of 602 (304-298).

“We improved six shots in the second round and sit 12th out of 17 teams,” head coach Greg Flesher said. “McKay Tye had a great ball striking day and he seemed to slice the ball well today. Freshman Jack Speer pushed up to a 73 in the afternoon and continues his consistency this season. Emile Menard’s second round on the back nine was great. I’m glad we improved in the second round and we look forward to getting back onto the course tomorrow.”

Freshman Jack Speer and senior McKay Tye produced matching scores of 148 (75-73) and currently sit t-26th. Speer posted eight birdies in his first 36 holes. Tye achieved 23 pars and four birdies after the two-round outing.

Emile Menard, a sophomore, followed his first round performance with a +4 (75) in the second round to finish with a two-round score of 152. Menard currently sits t-50th. Freshman Davis Kiger carded a two round score 154 (74-74) while redshirt-sophomore AJ Hopkins t-82nd with a combined two-round score of 158 (77-81).

West Florida currently holds the lead with a 36-hole total of 568. Bethune –Cookman University follows closely behind after carding 572. Towson (573), James Madison (579), and George Mason (581) round out the top-5.
