BUENA VISTA, VA – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team took a short break from conference play to take on the Knights of Southern Virginia University in their final non-conference match of the season. The Pride got on the board first.

Greensboro was able to quickly jump on the board in the first half. Robbie Barnes snuck behind the Knight’s back line to play a ball from Carlos Barragan. Barnes was then able to place the ball in the top right corner of the goal for his third goal of the season to give the Pride a 1-0 lead just twelve minutes into the contest.

Greensboro was then able to maintain their narrow 1-0 lead heading into the halftime period.

The second half started out like a mirror of the first. It only took the Pride ten minutes to add on to their lead. Following a deflection by a Southern Virginia defender, Barragan possessed the ball from about twenty-five yards out and rifled a shot to the top right corner of the goal to make the score 2-0.

Just twelve minutes following the game’s second goal, Shaun Watt tallied his fifth goal of the season to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Pride.

Following the Watt goal, Warren Washington duplicated the goal from Barragan earlier in the period with a laser shot from about twenty yards from the goal to make the score 4-0. Washington’s goal was his first goal of the season.

As the remainder of the time ran off, the Pride was able to keep the shutout intact winning by the 4-0 mark.

Head Coach Tony Falvino had this to say following the game. “Today, we had a slow start but adjusted what was needed for the second half. We created several opportunities and were able to capitalize. We are looking forward to continuing the hard work in tomorrow’s practice. As a team, we are strongly preparing ourselves for a positive start on Pride Field against Averett.”

Greensboro outshot Southern Virginia by a 19-4 mark. Shaun Watt recorded a team high five shots while Robbie Barnes, Carlos Barragan, and Craig Gage each accounted for two. The Pride also held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Jaime Payamps picked up the win in goal for the Pride. Payamps recorded 75 minutes of playing time while Chandler Pribble played the last 15 minutes of the game. In his fifteen minutes of play, Pribble saved the lone shot that he faced.

The Pride (3-4-1) will return to conference action on Saturday afternoon. Greensboro will welcome the Cougars of Averett University to the newly constructed Pride Field at 4:00 PM. For the latest information on the Pride men’s soccer team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
