Last week they named the 2015-2016 Guilford County High School Principal of the Year and we congratulate Alan Parker from Southwest Guilford High School….

Parker was the winner.

Principal Parker has done an outstanding job maintaining his leadership role at Southwest Guilford High School…You see him at all of the sporting events and the students seem to respond to his way of doing business and conducting the overall educational game plan at the Southwest Guilford campus, in High Point….

Parker has been overseeing schools and student populations for many years and he seems to really enjoy and appreciate directing the day-to-day operations that make Southwest Guilford the school that it has become under principal Parker’s guidance….

from the High Point Enterprise on Alan Parker the 2015-2016 Guilford County Principal of the Year:

Parker, who has 21 years of school administration under his belt, said the entire process of being nominated has made him realize that High Point is a great place to live and how much he treasures Southwest Guilford’s students, families and staff.

“It’s made me have to reflect back and see how fortunate I am as an educator,” he added.

Since he became principal of the school, Southwest Guilford has seen an increase in attendance and graduation rates and a decrease in dropouts.

Parker, who said the students keep him young, has been a teacher and a principal at many schools in High Point and said he has reflected on how lucky he is to live and work in a community he loves.

“I wouldn’t have stayed in High Point or educated my kids in High Point if I didn’t believe in the schools, and it’s great to see the city basically get its due,” he said. “There are great families there. There are great kids. There are great educators. There are strong schools. So, for the Teacher of the Year and the Principal of the Year to come out of schools in High Point really signals that the community is surrounding the schools.”

Parker will move on to the North Carolina Principal of the Year competition.
