Elon Women’s Soccer Falls to UNCW 2-0

ELON, N.C. – Goals from Stephanie Bronson and Maddie McCormick proved to be the difference as the Elon University women’s soccer team fel to the visiting UNCW Seahawks 2-0 on Friday night, Oct. 9, at Rudd Field.

With the loss, Elon falls to 8-3-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play. UNCW improves to 10-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the CAA with the victory.

Highlights
The Seahawks got on the board first as Kennedy Ulrich sent a ball into the box and Bronson finished in the 7th minute to give UNCW the early 2-0 advantage.

McCormick scored a team-high eighth goal of the season in the 34th minute, fighting off two defenders and firing a shot into the top left corner of the net to extend the Seahawks’ lead 2-0 going into halftime.

Elon increased the pressure going into the second half, creating some chances early in the period. In the 65thminute, Kendall Ballotti had two header attempts, one that was denied by UNCW goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy, and Molly Gradl’s follow-up was also denied and the Phoenix couldn’t find the breakthrough.

The Phoenix had six shots in the second half, which was more than their first half total of two. Elon also was able to shut out the Seahawks in the second stanza, but in the end, UNCW was able to hold on for the 2-0 victory.
