Elon Women’s Soccer Tops College of Charleston 2-0 on Senior Day

ELON, N.C. – Susannah Anderson and Tori Baliatico scored late goals for the Phoenix with just under 10 minutes remaining as the Elon University women’s soccer team earned a crucial 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over College of Charleston on Senior Day, Oct. 11, at Rudd Field.

Elon improves to 9-3-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play with the victory. The Cougars fall to 8-7-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the CAA.

Highlights
It wasn’t until 12 minutes into the first half that the first shot was taken. Samantha Burch had an opportunity that sailed high over the goal. College of Charleston’s Raymara Barreto took a free kick from long range in the 21st minute that caught the Phoenix by surprise, but it hit the crossbar.

After a couple of opportunities for the visitors, Lauren McKeever created Elon’s first good chance of the match, but he shot heading into the top left corner was saved well by Genevieve Henderson in the 41st minute, keeping the match scoreless heading into halftime.

In the second half, College of Charleston got things rolling quickly as Hope Walker had a header just seconds into the new period, but Taylor Mohr did well to keep the match tied 0-0 in the 46th minute.

Both teams would start to create some good chances, but none better than Alissa Pantuosco in the 78th minute. Her shot heading into the top-right corner hit the crossbar to deny a chance for the lead.

Anderson finally gave Elon the goal it was looking for in the 81st minute as she turned a header into the net off an Amanda Lasater corner kick to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

Baliatico gave the Phoenix a 2-0 cushion just less than a minute later. Her hustle to a ball from Taylor Glenn paid off and she volleyed a shot first-time into the top right corner to secure Elon’s 2-0 victory over the College of Charleston on Senior Day.
