RICHMOND, Va. – Amir Berkane of the Elon University men’s soccer team was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday, Oct. 12, as announced by the league office.
Berkane received the weekly honor after accounting for three points and helping the Phoenix to a 2-0 ledger last week. The Kelvedon, England, native scored the game-winner against Northeastern at the 72nd minute in Elon’s 2-1 win over the Huskies last Wednesday, Oct. 7. He followed that with an assist on the Phoenix’s lone goal in its 1-0 nonconference win over Lipscomb on Saturday, Oct. 10.
On the year, Berkane has five points on the season with a pair of goals and an assist.
This is the fourth CAA weekly award that the Phoenix has earned this season. Matthew Jegier (Rookie), Jaiden Fortune (Player) and Nicholas O’Callaghan (Player and Rookie) also received accolades by the league earlier this year.
The Phoenix is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a CAA road showdown at UNCW.
