Barragan & Nji Sweep USA South Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, NC – The USA South Athletic Conference announced their weekly Player of the Week awards on Monday afternoon. The Pride’s Isaiah Nji and freshman Carlos Barragan combined to sweep the men’s soccer weekly awards.

Barragan, a freshman midfielder from Winter Garden, Florida, was named the conference’s Men’s Soccer Player of the Week while also earning Rookie of the Week honors.

Carlos tallied five goals in a 2-0 week for the Pride against USA South Athletic Conference competition. In a 5-0 victory against LaGrange, Barragan tallied a hat trick with three goals, including the match’s first and the eventual game-winner. In a 6-1 victory over Huntingdon one day later, Barragan tallied two more goals.

Also joining Barragan on the weekly awards list was senior defender Isaiah Nji.

Nji, a native of Sugar Land, Texas, was named as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. Isaiah tallied a goal while leading a defense which allowed just one goal in a 2-0 week versus USA South competition. In the game against LaGrange the Pride allowed just one shot on goal. In a 6-1 victory over Huntingdon, the Pride defense again allowed one shot on goal while Nji tallied the first score of the game in the fifth minute of play.
