Bill Slayton(Southeast Guilford HS/Eastern Guilford HS) to the Caldwell County Sports Hall of Fame on Monday night

Coach Slayton was inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame back in September of this year, he had the Southeast Guilford football stadium re-dedicated in his honor this past Friday night and now on to the Caldwell County Sports Hall of Fame on Monday night….Pretty good run for the hard-charger from Granite Falls, N.C.

Four individuals will be inducted into the Caldwell County Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 26, marking the 27th class of inductees since the service project was started by the county’s rotary club in 1989.

Holly Andrews, Bill Slayton, Joe Walker and the late Garland (Bill) Crump will be recognized at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center with ceremonies beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Slayton is a former football and baseball player for Granite Falls High who later began his coaching and teaching career in Lenoir after college and service in the U.S. Air Force.

He went on to have a distinguished coaching career in football, baseball and golf in Guilford County, where his teams won a state championship in baseball and multiple conference championships in all three sports. Southeast Guilford High’s football stadium has since been rededicated in his honor.
