MAIDEN’S HUFFMAN ADVANCES IN NCHSAA 2-A WOMEN’S TENNIS;
LAKE NORMAN CHARTER PLAYERS MOVE ON
CARY — Zoe Huffman of Maiden advanced into the singles semifinals with a pair of convincing victories in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A women’s tennis championships on Friday at the Cary Tennis Center.
Huffman won both of her matches in straight sets and lost only one game in the process. She will play Rachel Rice of the Durham School of the Arts in one semifinal, while Lake Norman Charter teammates Lauren Bush and Lauren Loveless square off in the other semifinal match.
In fact, Lake Norman Charter had two singles players and two doubles teams qualify for the state championships, and all have advanced to Saturday semifinals. Defending doubles champs Olivia Archer and Hannah Archer of Lake Norman Charter had little trouble in their two victories, dropping only one game in four sets.
Four of the eight opening round doubles matches went the full three sets, with the team that dropped the opening set coming back to win in three of those.
Semifinal matches are scheduled to start Saturday morning at nine o’clock.
