HPU Men’s Lacrosse Releases Schedule For 2016 Season

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s lacrosse team released its schedule for the program’s fourth season of NCAA competition on Wednesday.

2016 Schedule

The squad’s tough non-conference slate features national powers Duke and Virginia along with a home game against another NCAA Tournament qualifier in Marist.

“We are looking forward to another very challenging schedule both in and out of conference in 2016,” head coach Jon Torpey said. “This schedule is going to be a great opportunity for our student-athletes to compete against some of the very best teams in the country.”

In the preseason, the Panthers will have exhibition contests at North Carolina (Jan. 23) and at home against Marquette (Feb. 6).

The Purple & White open the regular season on the road in Durham, N.C. against the Blue Devils (Friday, Feb. 12). The squad, then, hosts Boston University in the home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Vert Stadium where the Panthers went 6-2 in 2015.

From there, High Point will travel north twice the week with games at Virginia (Tuesday, Feb. 23) and Robert Morris (Saturday, Feb. 27). It will mark the first meeting with the Cavaliers while the Colonials visited the Triad last season where HPU earned a 13-10 victory behind four points from Matt Thistle.

The Panthers will get a chance to avenge last season’s 10-9 defeat at Marist when the Red Foxes visit HPU (Saturday, March 5). The team will then play its third first-time opponent when Providence invades Vert Stadium on Saturday, March 12.

Southern Conference action begins on March 19 when the Panthers fly to USAFA, Colo. for a showdown with SoCon newcomer Air Force. Last season, Michael LeClair (1g, 5a) and Connor Robinson (4g) combined for 10 points in the 10-9 triumph over the Falcons.

The following weekend, HPU returns to Richmond, Va., where the team claimed the 2015 SoCon Tournament, to face the Spiders. Richmond – the 2015 regular season SoCon champs – will host the Purple & White on Sunday, March 27.

The team returns home for the next three games as Mercer (April 3), Bellarmine (April 9) and Jacksonville (April 16) all pay visits to Vert Stadium. In 2015, the Panthers split two 1-goal contests with the Bears while beating the Knights (10-9) and the Dolphins (9-6).

The final road trip of the season takes place on Saturday, April 23 when the squad heads to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman. HPU will wrap up the regular season and celebrate its senior day on Saturday, April 30 against the Keydets of VMI.

For the second straight year, the Southern Conference Tournament will be held in Richmond, Va. on May 5-7.
