College Cross Country Results – Sommer Fanney Breaks School Record at NCAA Division III South-Southeast Regional Championships

WINCHESTER, Va. – Guilford College’s Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) broke the school’s six-kilometer record as Guilford’s women placed 20th with 593 points and the men finished 23rd with 647 points at the NCAA Division III South-Southeast Regional Championships meet at Kernstown Battlefield, hosted by Shenandoah University.

After breaking the previous six-kilometer school record with Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) last week at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships, Fanney broke Reyna’s record time by 10.2 seconds with a 53rd-place overall finish at 24:23.6. Fanney was in the middle of seven-runner pack that finished within a seven-second range.

Reyna came across the finish line with the second-best Guilford time and seventh-best six-kilometer time in school history at 25:17.8, good for a 99th place finish overall.

Nick Reynolds led Guilford’s men, placing 100th overall with a time of 29:00.3. Reynolds finished third in a pack of four runners that all came across the finish line with one-half second separation.

Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) finished just behind Reynolds at 103rd place, posting a time of 29:08.4.

With cross country season now complete, Coach Danny Cash and his runners turn to indoor track and field season. The team kicks off the 2015-2016 season Saturday, December 5th at the JDL College Kick Off Classic at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
