Elon Men’s Soccer to Host Winthrop In Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s soccer team received an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon, Nov. 16, as announced on the NCAA selection show. The Phoenix will host Winthrop at Rudd Field with a game time scheduled for 7 p.m.

This is Elon’s (13-5-1) fourth trip to the national tournament in the past five years, the first as an at-large bid. The maroon and gold will host the opening round of the NCAAs for the second time at Rudd Field and its first since hosting Clemson in 2013.

The Phoenix will square off versus Winthrop, the Big South Conference Tournament champion. The Eagles (11-6-2) claimed the Big South title this past Sunday, Nov. 15, defeating High Point, 3-1, in penalty kicks. Winthrop holds a 6-5-1 record all-time over the Phoenix, but Elon won the most recent contest last year, 1-0, in Wilmington, N.C., at the Wrightsville Beach Classic.

Ticket information for Thursday’s match will be available at elonphoenix.com.
