LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Greensboro College women’s basketball team (1-2) fell to Otterbein (3-1) 93-55 Saturday in its first game of the Pat Deacon Classic hosted by Transylvania University.

The Pride trailed 34-24 midway through the second period but used a 5-0 run to pull within 39-34. Da Jah Joyner scored the first three points of the run before Alyssa Carbone and Courtney Pearsal each added a free throw.

But Greensboro could not pull any closer for the remainder of the contest.

“I was disappointed with our effort tonight,” Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. “We have a lot to work to do, but we have the pieces to be successful if they buy in. Following the game, I asked them to tell me if they were ready to do what it takes.”

Monica Smalls recorded a team-high 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jada Peterson scored eight points. Peterson tallied seven points while also pulling down seven boards. Marla Crawford dished out five assists.

The Pride women will return to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against Kenyon in the consolation contest of the Pat Deacon Classic. For more information on the Pride women’s basketball team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
