GREENSBORO, N.C. -The Greensboro College women’s basketball team fell 57-55 Wednesday to the Wasps of Emory & Henry College despite a late surge.

With the Pride (1-4) trailing 25-6 just two minutes into the second period, , Greensboro closed out the period on a 13-3 run to pull to within 31-25 at the half. Kamerin Williams got the run started before Alexis Hite knocked down a three-pointer just before the clock expired.
Following the beak, Greensboro continued its surge with a 6-0 stretch to tie the contest at 31. Monica Smalls, Hite, and Williams each recorded a bucket during the run, forcing the Wasps (5-0) to burn their second timeout of the game.
Just six minutes after they tied the game, the Pride then faced another double-digit deficit at 45-33.
Greensboro, aided by eight points from Marla Crawford, pulled to within two points at 57-55 with 46 seconds sremaining. The Pride then got the ball back with 10 seconds left on a Wasps shot-clock violation, but their last-ditch effort came up just short.
“We were able to fight our way back into the game,” Assistant Coach Walter Hamilton IV said. “We played well in spurts, but we have to find a way to put a whole 40 minutes together. Now we have to turn our attention to this Saturday, when we open conference play.”
Crawford finished the day with a team-high 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. Da Jah Joyner also finished with 10 points, while Alyssa Carbone contributed nine points. Jada Peterson, Smalls, and Williams each finished with six points.
