Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Stumbles Against Cambellsville On New Years Day

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s basketball team fell to Campbellsville University Friday, 91-78.

Greensboro (5-5) held a 25-22 lead midway the first half before the Tigers (13-4) ran ahead 28-25 on a 6-0 run.

Campbellsville then took a 42-29 lead into the break.

In the second period and trailing by 24, the Pride cut the lead to 12 at 63-51 with a 12-0 run with 11 minutes to play. Lorenzo Marry and Christopher Corbin each accounted for four points during the run, while David Leaman and Derrick Smith each tallied one bucket.

The Tigers then pulled away from the Pride, but Greensboro closed out the final four minutes on a 15-0 run. Joseph Gatling tallied 10 of his 15 points during the run with Simeon Howard adding the other five.

“Coming in, I knew that we were facing a really good opponent and that we were going to be challenged,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “We really had a rocky six to eight minutes in the first half, and we were never able to completely recover from that.

“Emotionally we took a couple of steps back tonight. I think physically we battled and played them even in the second half, but emotionally there was more ‘I’ than ‘we’ today and as a staff we are really disappointed in that. Now we have to get ready to open conference play next week.”

Parris Scales recorded a team-high 21 points to go along with a team-leading seven rebounds. Howard and Gatling also finished with double-figure scoring.

The Pride will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, hosting the Pacers of William Peace University to open USA South Athletic Conference play. For more information on the Greensboro College men’s basketball team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
