Final:Southwest Guilford 85, East Forsyth 65

After a week off from game action, the Cowboys finally hit the hardwood again against conference foe East Forsyth.
The Eagles come into tonight after having beaten the Bison of HPC, and the Cowboys last beat the Bobcats of Glenn. These Eagles were the last Piedmont Triad Conference opponent to beat the Cowboys, in January of 2014. East Forsyth came into tonight looking to knock of the unbeaten Southwest Cowboys as the hosts looked to stay unbeaten on the year.
The game opened up with each team trading baskets and the lead only once was 4 points in the even opening frame. An offensive rebound put-back by the Cowboys just before the buzzer ended the dog fight at 16-14 in favor of the hosts.
The second quarter opened with back-to-back three pointers by the home team taking the margin to it’s largest point on the night at 22-14. The Eagles wouldn’t back down however, and responded with a 5-0 spurt to cut the lead back to 22-19 with 5:53 to play. Bit by bit the Eagles chipped away until a 3 pointer by the visitors allowed them to reclaim the lead at 30-28 with 3:39 to go. Southwest’s Kobe Langley then hit the first of 3 straight 3 pointers in a 65 second span which put the tally at 37-32. The Eagles fought back again with a 4-0 spurt to make it 37-36. Southwest responded to that with a smart 4-0 spurt to close the half with a 41-36 lead.
A talk about committing on the defensive end finally seemed to stick, as Southwest slowly started to expand the lead. Rebounds, steals, and transition baskets allowed Southwest to seize control of the frame as their efficiency began to return to normal to the tune of an 63-46 lead at the close of the frame.
The Eagles would not lay down, and fought hard to keep the game from getting too out of hand. Southwest would push the margin further out, but East Forsyth would close it back as the final frame ultimately was pretty even in the books. However, it was just too much balance in the unbeaten Cowboys attack. Southwest held off the hard nosed Eagles for a 85-65 conference win.
East Forsyth was led by Devin Higgins with 13. Southwest had all 5 starters in double figures again. Kameron Langley had (17, 6 Asts, 5 Rebs, 2 Stls), Orlando Smith had (16, 6 Rebs, Ast, Stl), Kobe Langley had (16, 3 Blks, 2 Rebs, Stl), Kaymon Mitchell had a double double with (10, 11 Rebs, 3 Asts, Stl) and Keyshaun Langley with (10, 6 Asts, 3 Rebs, 3 Stls). The Cowboys move to 16-0 overall and 2-0 in the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference.
