College Indoor Track and Field Results – Trent Evans and Alex Martin Earn Top-ten Finishes at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Guilford College’s Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan) and Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) collected top-ten finishes as the Quakers competed at the Wake Forest Invitational, hosted at the JDL Fast Track. Schools from all NCAA divisions as well as track clubs and unattached runners participated in the event.

As part of Martin’s three-event day, the sophomore earned a top-ten finish for the Quakers in the long jump, placing eighth with a mark of 6.42 meters. .07 meters separated Martin from a fifth-place finish and .01 meters kept him from placing seventh. The mark also places seventh all-time in school history.

Also participating in three events, Trent Evans collected Guilford other top-ten finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.38. Evans’ finish was 1.78 seconds off of a top-five finish. Evans’ finish stands fifth all-time in school history, his fourth top-eight finish in Guilford’s history.

Guilford’s 4×400 meter relay team of Yashua Clemons, Lucas Prillaman, Lee Joyner, and Evans placed fourth with a time of 3:36.19. The Quakers were within four seconds of a second-place finish, which would have surpassed Division I Charleston Southern’s relay team.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) led the women with the team’s best finish, a 12th-place finish in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:27.18. The mark stands second in school history, her second finish in the school’s top-eight all-time finishes.

Becca Benfield led Guilford’s field participants with a 21st-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 10.14 meters, the sixth-best finish among Division II and III schools. The mark is the fourth-best performance in school history. Benfield also placed 25th in the shot put, the seventh-best performance among Division II and III schools, with a mark of 9.63 meters. The mark was also the fourth-best throw in Guilford history.

Jennifer Thomas (Randleman, N.C./Randleman) led Guilford’s sprinters with the fifth-best 200 meter dash time in school history at 30.28 seconds.

Coach Danny Cash’s Quakers return to action next Friday and Saturday at Christopher Newport University’s Captains Invite.
