Recruits C.J. Reed and Amanda Hairston(Dudley High School/WSSU) arrived in Devonport last week to begin preparations for the upcoming NWBU season…

The Warriors women’s team enjoyed a successful season last year, but new recruit Hairston hopes to bring leadership to the team and believes her attributes can take the side even further.

The 24-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina also attended Bethune-Cookman University before transferring to Winston-Salem University.

The 193-centimetre forward hopes her strength will be a welcome addition to the team.

“I plan to bring enthusiasm, leadership and hard work,” Hairston said. “I’m a strong and physical player, and I hope I can bring that consistent kind of play to the girls.”

Travelling to Australia for the first time, Hairston said she always planned on seeking opportunities overseas but it was a big step for anyone to take.

“I’ve always thought about playing overseas, but it’s not something I thought I would ever actually do,” she said.

“But this is the opportunity that was handed to me, so I thought, ‘Why not?’

“It’s a great opportunity and experience, so I’ll just roll with it.”

The 2016 NWBU season starts on February 12, with the pre-season tournament this weekend.
