Graham Sporting Goods High School Basketball Tonight:Wild One in “Whirlie Town”, as Smith comes to town and pulls out 60-57 victory

More scores on the way….+++++Scroll down for more scores…
The first game we saw, saw the Dudley girls knock off Southeast Guilford 46-35 to win the Girls Metro 4-A regular season crown and the Panthers finished with a conference mark of (9-1)…SEG closes at (7-3)…On to Grimsley High School for the Grimsley-Smith boys game next….

You can call it the Bob Sawyer Gym, the Phil Weaver Court, but tonight in “Whirlie Town”, the home of the Grimsley Whirlies, the Smith Golden Eagles came into town and took home a 60-57 come-from-behind victory

The game was tied 57-57 with just seconds to go, but Smith connected on three by Cameron Dargon and the Golden Eagles were on top and Grimsley had one last look with just 1.4 seconds remaining and the long shot just inside halfcourt by Mason Moore bounced off the backboard, hit the front of the rim and fell away leaving the Whirlies with that empty feeling at home and it let the Smith Golden Eagles go home with a win and in the process, the two teams both end up the regular season at (7-3) and tied for second in the Metro 4-A Conference and since they split their games during conference play with Grimsley winning a it Smith and Smith winning at Grimsley, they will probably have to flip a coin at tomorrow’s coaches meeting to see who gets the #2 seed at next week’s conference tournament to be played at Southeast Guilford…..

Tonight Smith 60, Grimsley 57 and even with the loss, Grimsley converted a 7-point play and had chance at a 9 or 10-point play on one possession…

A made two and then the and-one free throw by Austin Inge and then Inge hit four straight technical free throws and Grimsley got the ball after the Tech, but did not convert the shot from the field for a three or two that would have given them a 10-point play and at that point, Grimsley had a chance to go up by 14, but they watched the Golden Eagles come all the way back from 11 down to cut the lead to three and that is really when Smith started their game-winning run…..
