CBS MaxPreps Top 100 Preseason Baseball Rankings for 2016:Providence(Charlotte), South Caldwell and Ardrey Kell in

from Jim Stout and MaxPreps at www.maxpreps.com and didn’t the Page Pirates beat Ardrey Kell in Round Two of the NCHSAA playoffs last year on a Saturday afternoon down at AK, with the strong post-season left-hander Kevin Westlake on the mound for the Pirates….Remember those Pirate seniors Stanford Shell and Kenny Mackovic, they are probably playing baseball for some college these days, but Westlake is back and look out for him, he is one of the best pitchers in the state….

  1. Curious to see when these rankings will cease to exist….because high school baseball and winning a state champions means absolutely NOTHING anymore….growing up I used to look at the USA Today poll and look for a local NC team….and get excited and I would wonder what it would be like to be on a great team that was nationally ranked….but thanks to Daddy and Mama Ball….kids these days will never know what it is like to get the recent USA Today and see if that great local team made the Super 25….

  2. But Daddy and Mama’s argument is now….”Well, I’m just looking out for my kid….and trying to get him/her an opportunity to play at the next level…” For these parents, please go and research the probability of that happening, and then also go sit behind the guy in the stands with a stopwatch, clipboard, cigar, and bucket hat! Ask him about your kid and wait for the response…unless your kid is head and shoulders above the rest….that bucket hat guy is NOT there for your boy/girl….best thing that ever happened to me as a player was being told…”you aren’t good enough”…which made me work harder to become better….I didn’t go and spend thousands of my mama and daddy’s money on travel ball and being seen….I worked harder than the others and got a chance and then I put the other 24 guys on my collegiate team on my back….and I played for them and not myself….youth baseball these days is as messed up as our society is….

  3. I’m not a big believer in those polls either. I think high coaches somehow play a part in that ranking hype. I’d bet HPCA coach probably does not hype up his players. Everyone says HPC has a strong pitching group. Wesleyan still though is the best around here until they are knocked off. My son is not at that level but we do enjoy watching good high school baseball. I wish more top level teams would play each other and be so concerned about the record. Would you not rather loose a 2-1 game to a very good team then win 22-0 against a team that has no chance? If I had played, that’s what I would want to do. I went over to Dudley on Saturday and out of those teams we all thought Western Alamance and Northern were much further ahead of Dudley, GDS and Thomasville.
