Coach Kristin’s Comets will not be denied:St. Pius takes Shamrock again and now boast a four-year record of (126-1)

*****Shelton’s Shakin’ Shamrocks and it’s working*****
(St. Pius now 126-1 over the past four years….Look out Coach Mike K. and Freddy J., the new Coach K./Coach Kristin is on her way.)

Congratulations to the Saint Pius X Girls Varsity Basketball team for winning their fourth consecutive Shamrock tournament title. Shamrock is a regional Catholic schools tournament that has been held in Charlotte for over 50 years featuring 7th-8th grade teams from NC, SC, VA and GA. This is Coach Kristin Shelton’s 7th title in 14 years.

The girls dominated the competition defeating IHM out of Atlanta, GA and St. Marks 7th and 8th grade teams from Huntersville, NC by over 20 points each on their way to the semi-final game. The semi-final was a Shamrock classic with Saint Pius finding themselves down twice by five points in the second half, but some key defensive plays and late buckets triggered a Saint Pius two-point win 36-34 over Saint Michael’s from Cary, NC. The Comets then faced Roanoke Catholic in the championship game and despite being down 15-12 at the end of one, the team made some defensive adjustments shutting down Roanoke’s two top players and earned the championship title winning 47-30. This young team started a 6th grader, at point, two 7th graders and two 8th graders. The four-year record of 126-1 does not appear to be in jeopardy.

Congratulations to the championship game MVP Olivia Kennedy and the Tournament All-Stars Caroline Wyrick and Anna Schmedes.

Saint Pius X finished the season 29-1.
