College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 10, Greensboro 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Zachary Berkowitz scored two goals and two assists in Guilford College’s 10-7 men’s lacrosse victory at Greensboro College Wednesday afternoon. The Quakers (1-1) also got three goals from Dylan Haupt and a career-high 15 saves from goalie Parker Styles in the sophomore’s second college start.

The Quakers scored the game’s first six goals and built an 8-3 halftime lead. Berkowitz capped the run with two second-quarter tallies, including a man-up tally 8:45 before halftime set up by Adam Fiore.
Greensboro (1-2) reeled off four straight goals, two by Gianni Gonzalez, over the second and third quarters to get back to within 8-6. Guilford’s Haupt stopped the streak with consecutive tallies to close the third quarter. Berkowitz set up Haupt’s extra-man score with 3:55 left in the quarter before Haupt netted his third goal 39 seconds before the end of the frame.

Charles Stringfellow scored 10 seconds into the fourth quarter, which provided the game’s final margin.
Fiore and Andrew McDonagh both contributed a goal and an assist to Guilford’s balanced attack that saw seven different students tally goals. Connor Manning and Erik Fries both picked up four ground balls to share team-high honors.

Gonzalez scored three goals and an assist to lead Greensboro’s offense. He also won nine of 11 face-offs and picked up six ground balls. Lamar Jelks also had six pickups and won four-of-nine draws. Goalie Ethan Danser made 15 stops in goal and also had six ground balls.

Coach Tom Carmean’s Quakers host Elizabethtown College next Wednesday (3/2) at 3:00 p.m.
